Tom McMillen joins Board of Directors of USHS

Former Olympian and NBA Great, Three-Term Congressman and Rhodes Scholar Tom McMillen Joins HSUS Board of Directors
The Humane Society of the United States announces the election of Tom McMillen to its board of directors. McMillen has had an extraordinary career in collegiate, Olympic and professional sports; politics; business and civic engagement.

A Rhodes Scholar and first-team All American at the University of Maryland, McMillen played for the U.S. Olympic Team in 1972 and for several NBA teams. He later went on to serve three terms in the U.S. House of Representatives from Maryland. He previously co-chaired the President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports.

McMillen currently serves as chairman and CEO of Timios National Corporation, a real estate services company. While in Congress, McMillen chaired the Congressional Chesapeake Bay Caucus. He serves on the board of and advises numerous companies, nonprofit organizations and the University of Maryland System.

“Tom McMillen has made an extraordinary mark in the worlds of business, sports and politics,” said Wayne Pacelle, president and CEO of The Humane Society of the United States. “Now, we know he’s going to make a distinct mark in the cause of protecting animals from cruelty and exploitation. We are thrilled to have someone of Tom’s stature and ability join our board of directors.”

His term on the HSUS board will last three years.

The HSUS board of directors is made up of 27 dedicated and influential leaders charged with oversight of the largest animal protection organization in the country.
